Harts of Teal, a faith-based non-profit started by two ovarian cancer survivors.

34 years old, healthy. A physician assistant in Emergency Medicine. I have a son and a daughter and was pregnant with twin girls. Around 30 weeks pregnant I developed severe pain. OB thought it was muscle pain. A few weeks later it was unbearable and I insisted something else was wrong. I was admitted and had an MRI of my kidney which showed a 24 cm mass almost the size of each twin coming from my right ovary up to my liver! Had emergency vertical C-section and laparotomy the following day and twins were born very early at 33 weeks. They stayed in the NICU almost 60 days. Because of my surgery, the blood transfusion, and a bowel obstruction developed, I was unable to even hold or see my babies until the fourth day. God has a plan though!! Without the twin pregnancy and the hormones, which caused the cancer to grow rapidly, the cancer would have likely gone undetected for many years. I had debulking surgery with the c-section and was diagnosed with sex cord stromal cell carcinoma stage 3A. I completed 3 rounds of Carbo/Taxol. I had a head shaving fiesta after the first round and my 5 year old daughter shaved my head to help diminish their fear. I am 4 months post chemo and currently NED. My twin girls are thriving! They are my little miracle babies. I also document my cancer journey on IG at @thrivingtwinmomma
