Kenni’s Teal Story:
McKenna Shea “Kenni” Xydias was diagnosed with Stage III Germ Cell Ovarian Cancer shortly after her 2nd birthday. Her symptoms were overlooked by her Pediatrician at the time because she was potty training, and unable to explain what she was feeling. She experienced random fevers, fatigue, lack of appetite, incontinence, and severe bloating. These were dismissed as gas or intestinal blockage, instead of investigating further to see what the cause was. It wasn’t until tears were shed and pushing from her parents that an X-Ray and ultrasound were done.
She is one of the youngest to be diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer, which has helped bring awareness and attention to further needs for Ovarian Cancer detection and advocacy. She underwent an oophorectomy and 4 rounds of chemo before receiving the news that she had No Evidence of Disease in June 2019.
Currently, Kenni is a happy and healthy 4 year old. She loves trying to keep up with her two older brothers, and looks forward to starting Pre-K in the fall.
