On May 17 1999, I awoke from exploratory abdominal surgery to hear the words “You have cancer.” After two surgeries in a week and spending three weeks in the hospital because of complications, I finally went home to recover. Or at least I thought…the day after leaving the hospital a hole opened on the incision line, leaking excess abdominal fluid. I ended up back in the ER. It took a few months to heal while undergoing chemotherapy (6 rounds of Taxol and Carboplatin). They found ovarian cancer and a second primary of endometrial cancer. And with God’s help, my fight began!! This cancer took a lot from me but gave me things in return. One thing is meeting and getting to know MANY teal ‘SISters.’ I may only know some of these wonderful women on Facebook, but there is a bond between all of us that nothing can ever destroy. We are a family of warriors … battling a disease NONE of us ever wanted to have. |
